The job
David’s job had three parts, all done by our team on the same booking:
- six trees removed
- the stumps ground out
- a tall hedge taken out, in David’s words “20 of 12 ft hedge removed”
Taking down several trees and clearing the stumps in one go means the ground is left ready for whatever comes next, whether that’s lawn, new planting or a fence line, instead of being left with stumps to deal with later.
Doing what was agreed
What David picked out most wasn’t the size of the job but that it went exactly as planned. The team “arrived when they said they would, did the job they said they would, charged me what they said they would.”
That’s what our teams aim for on every job: a clear quote after a visit, an agreed day, and the work done as described.
Planning a similar clear-out?
If you have several trees, old stumps or an overgrown hedge to deal with, it’s often simpler to have them done on one visit. See our pages on tree removal and felling, stump grinding and hedge trimming and removal. If the hedge is leylandii or another conifer, our leylandii and conifer removal page covers that too.
Before taking trees down, check whether any are protected. Stockport Council has an online map that shows Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas, and our guide Do I need permission to cut down a tree in Stockport? explains the rules. If you’re clearing a hedge in spring or summer, read our guide to bird nesting season and tree work first.
Our teams cover Stockport and the surrounding towns, including Bramhall, Hazel Grove and Bredbury. Get a free quote.
“[The team] arrived when they said they would, did the job they said they would, charged me what they said they would. Did a great job: 6 trees removed, stumps ground out, 20 of 12 ft hedge removed. 5 star job.”

Common Questions
Can you remove several trees and grind the stumps on the same visit?
Yes, that’s what happened on this job: six trees came down and the stumps were ground out on the same booking. Our teams will plan the order of work when they quote.
Do I need a felling licence to remove trees from my garden?
Not usually. In England, the Forestry Commission’s guidance says you don’t need a licence for trees in private gardens. Trees with a Tree Preservation Order, or in a conservation area, still need the council’s consent or notice first.
Do I need to grind the stumps after a tree is felled?
You don’t have to, but a stump left in the ground takes up space and some species keep sending up new shoots. Grinding takes the stump and main roots down below ground level so the area can be reused.
Can you remove a whole hedge as well as trees?
Yes. On this job a hedge was taken out alongside the trees. If you’re planning hedge work, check for nesting birds first, especially in spring and summer.
